Sailing

Fire!

While sailing on Saturday, we watched an enormous veldfire ravage the opposite side of the dam. Fire is definitely not something to take lightly! I was very glad that the fire was on the opposite side of the dam!

When we sailed pst the point where the fire had started, we noticed a blackened and burnt longdrop making a lopsided attempt to imitate the Tower of Pisa… Smoke break gone wrong = veldfire?

The wind was great for sailing, but it really did help the fire to spread quickly! I heard that the fire chased the fire truck, rather than the fire truck chasing the fire!

I was very glad that I was not one of the fishermen on the opposite shore. At times the smoke was so thick, we couldn’t even see them!

I was quite surprised that they didn’t all simply pack up and leave.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust [nor fire!] destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19 – 21
